Troop 185 informational website

Dates: Memorial Day weekend
May 28, 29, 30 and (31 No School)

Because of the amazing amount of interest among the troop for a trip back to Gettysburgs "WE ARE GOING AGAIN". MR. Duquette and MR. Cross are the Troop 185 leaders for this event.

The Gettysbury cemetery was dedication on November 19, 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address, we will visit and stand were Lincoln once stood.

Saturday Night we have plan the Sleepy Hollow of Gettysburg Candlelight Ghost Tours

Troop 185 along with Troop 22 from Tarrytown NY have been planning this trip together since our two troops venture at summer camp 2009.

NYLT
National Youth Leadership Training

The National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is a leadership training program for boy leaders developed by the Boy Scouts of America. It consists of a seven-day outdoor practical phase and an application phase. NYLT is not another summer camp, but an intense, challenging, leadership experience.

Scouting at its best!

Each year Troop 185 sends one or two scouts at the expense of the troop.
We as a troop are just five years old and have invested over $2000.00 in just our youth training alone. This year we are sending our newly elected Senior Patrol Leader.
Troop Trailer
The troop committee finalized the purchased of our newly enclosed box trailer. It is registered and paid in full, WOW now we can take everything.
The troop first trip using the trailer was to Adventure 2010.

Parents it was "SWEET"

We pulled up to the church loaded all the troop gear, and the backpacks closed the door and finished.

A CAMPING WE GO, cool beans!
Summer Camp
Avoid the late fees, paid by June 1, and save the $30.00 late fee.
Parents have all received the entire informational package and everyone who has registered was e-mail their sons own personalized "Website Summer Camp Link".

This link is for you, each scout has his own personal link, PLEASE REVIEW ALL THE INFORMATION, Times, events and merit badges and your contact information.
2010 BSA Patch We are on LEADERSHIP

LEADERSHIP Scouting has a proud tradition of producing great leaders.
Self-determination, teamwork, and preparedness are synonymous with Scouts everywhere. For Scoutingís 1OOth Anniversary, letís celebrate this tradition of developing youth leaders. The Year of Celebration Leadership Award encourages Scouts to explore and reflect upon the qualities of a good leader. The award recipients will work on leadership skills. The Leadership Award rewards participants for reflecting upon and sharing leadership lessons and skills. Scouts earning this award will look to role models, lead groups, and participate in leadership-building activities. Adults and alumni will build their unit leadership skills by emphasizing membership growth, volunteering, and providing role models.

Complete three of the five requirements in each category to earn that award.

Boy Scouts

1. Identify someone from your Scouting experience you think is a good leader. Ask them what makes them an effective leader and then talk to your parent or Scoutmaster about what makes a good leader. Write 200 words on the leader you chose and share with your troop leader.

2. Teach a Scout a rank requirement and help them to a successful completion.

3. Serve in a troop or team leadership position for three months.

4. Serve as a youth staff member for a unit, district, or council event or camp.

5. Serve as a den chief for a Cub Scout or Webelos den for three months.
